Bicycles are a major form of transport – for people and
goods. They’re very useful for small
distances where labour is cheap, though they do slow the traffic down when it’s
congested. Most bicycles don’t seem to
be geared: Bangladesh is pretty flat, so I guess the fewer things to go wrong
the better.
Cycle rickshaws are individually decorated, and often very beautiful. They’re – along with all vehicles! – in
better condition in Rajshahi than Dhaka.
Mostly the hoods are folded back – they make the space a bit cramped,
and seem to be used only when it’s raining.

Three
wheeled cycle drays are also used for lots of different deliveries.
